Natasha Kanapé Fontaine, Innu poet-performer, actor, visual artist, and activist for Indigenous and environmental rights, will be discussing her multi-genre work on race and reconciliation. She is the author of three collection of poems translated from the French by Howard Scott: Do Not Enter My Soul in Your Shoes (Mawenzi House, 2015), which won the Prix littéraire des Écrivains francophones d’Amérique; Assi Manifesto (Mawenzi House, 2016), finalist for the 2015 Prix Émile-Nelligan; and Blueberries and Apricots (Mawenzi House, 2018). Kuei, My Friend: A Conversation on Race and Reconciliation (Talonbooks, 2018) is an exchange of letters with celebrated Québécois-American author Deni Ellis Béchard. Kanapé Fontaine militates against racism, discrimination, and colonial mentalities through public speaking and poetry. |
