Description | Join us for a free film screening of “Blood Memory” at wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ - Intellectual House on Tuesday, February 25th from 5-9pm. This film tells the story of the Indian Adoption Era and the contemporary challenges of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). The event will include a catered reception, and Sandy White Hawk (a Sicangu Lakota adoptee from the Rosebud Reservation, South Dakota) will lead a discussion following the film screening. In addition to appearing in the film, Sandy “is the founder and Director of First Nations Repatriation (FNRI), the first organization of its kind whose goal it is to create a resource for First Nations people impacted by foster care or adoption to return home, reconnect, and reclaim their identity.” She also serves as an Honorary Witness for Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and a board member of the Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition (NABSHC). |
