Collette Ncube, DrPH, MPH, MS Assistant Professor, Northeastern University, Bouvé College of Health Sciences, Department of Health Sciences Preterm birth is a significant public health problem in the U.S., and rates have recently begun to rise after almost a decade of decline. The mortality, morbidity and societal economic costs associated with preterm birth disproportionately burden underserved racial/ethnic minority populations with persistently higher documented rates. During this presentation, Dr. Ncube will discuss her current research aimed at addressing significant gaps in our understanding of mechanisms by which structural and intermediary determinants of health interact and function interdependently to generate and perpetuate racial and ethnic preterm birth disparities. Dr. Ncube is a social epidemiologist whose primary goal is to improve our understanding of systems within which health disparities in maternal and child health (MCH) are generated and perpetuation, in order to be able to develop interventions and propose policies to effectively address them. She received her MPH and DrPH from the University of Pittsburgh. She received a master's of science in epidemiology (MCH certificate) and was a postdoctoral fellow in perinatal epidemiology at the University of Washington. This event will be held online via Zoom. The seminar will begin at 3:30 PM and you can register via the following link: washington.zoom.us… |
