The seminar will begin at 3:30 PM and you can register via the following link: washington.zoom.us… Dr. Ahrens is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. She is clinician-scientist in the Center for Child Health, Behavior, and Development Research (Seattle Children’s) and is the Medical Director of Echo Glen Children’s Center, a state-run juvenile detention center. She is holds an adjunct position within the School of Public Health (Health Services). Dr. Ahrens will describe her community-engaged, mixed methods and intervention research with two systems-involved populations: youth in foster care and youth in juvenile detention. She will describe her work with foster youth, including studies to identify risk factors for teen pregnancy and understand effective policy and behavioral intervention strategies. She will also describe her other work, including studies to better characterize physical health risks in foster youth and her current NIH HEAL grant to Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial method to understand effective opioid prevention strategies among youth in state juvenile detention facilities. |
