UW CIRCLE and the Kelly Ethnic Cultural Center will be hosting a series of Community Conversations that will focus on race, colorism, and anti-blackness--both  in a local and global context. The goal of these conversations engage UW domestic and international students who want a foundational understanding of the current protests against police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement. These Community Conversations will be a four part series that will take place during Summer 2020.

Each Community Conversation is designed as a stand-alone program but students are invited to join all conversations. While focusing on a particular topic, facilitators will introduce key terms and will provide students with context on how these terms are used. Whenever possible, facilitators will engage students on how these terms show up in other cultures throughout the world. This comparison to other cultures is important to help students recognize these issues by drawing on cultural concepts that may be familiar to them.

After each Community Conversation, presenters will share resources for students to continue their own journey and learning. At the end of the four-part series, a resource library will be available on the CIRCLE  website. Any UW student is able to join in the Community Conversation. All Community Conversations will be hosted every other Tuesday at 7:00 PM PST via zoom.
