Description | Become a Plant Crime Scene Investigator (CSI)! Learn about key plant diseases and insect pests that can cause problems for favorite trees and shrubs in the landscape. Recognition of decay pathogens is essential when assessing tree health and structure. This session will focus on fungal decay diseases, prevalent in the damp fall season, that affect many of our native tree species in the Pacific Northwest. Specific diseases covered include annosus root rot, armillaria root rot, laminated root rot, velvet top fungus, red ring rot, artist conk, brittle cinder and madrona canker. When assessing tree health and structure, proper identification of these pathogens is essential in order to determine appropriate management methods. Plant Health Care (PHC) approaches to management, including acceptable Integrated Pest Management (IPM) methods will be covered.
