Description | Delivering Innovation in a Distributed Team Wednesday March 10 | 8:00 am – 12:00 pm The Global Innovation Exchange is offering a professional learning course design for leaders of teams that must produce innovative new ideas for their products or clients despite the challenges of working in a virtual environment. In a series of small discussions and exercises, the course will focus on fostering innovation, collaboration and performance in the teams you lead. Learners will explore the following concepts: - What is creative thinking and how does it contribute to innovation in distributed teams?
- What are “T-shaped” people and “I-shaped” people and why do you need both?
- How do you encourage people to have “hallway conversations” when hallways no longer connect them?
- What structures can be used in virtual meeting to drive innovation?
This half-day virtual workshop is taught by Jason Preston, a Venture Partner at Alsop-Louie Partners, and the co-founder of Dent, a company and conference that creates and supports a community of entrepreneurs, executives, and creatives who are driven to "put a dent in the universe." He is also a consultant on strategy and culture to Microsoft, Malaria No More, and other organizations, and he is a part-time lecturer for the Human Centered Design and Engineering department at the University of Washington, where he instructs on organizational teamwork, leadership, and culture. Jason has developed a unique perspective on what drives successful company culture and leadership through his own experience as a founder, and through his research and relationships with dozens of entrepreneurs and leaders, including Pixar co-founder Alvy Ray Smith, Lynda.com founder Lynda Weinman, The North Face founder Hap Klopp, and Indiegogo co-founder Danae Ringelmann.
