Objectives: Upon completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
1) Understand what has been the trend over the last 5 years with reference to a career interest for Pathology for graduating US medical school seniors.
2) What have been the measures taken by various Pathology-related professional organizations to improve the perception of Pathology as a career for US
medical students
3) Recommendations for where to go from here to make Pathology a viable and interesting career for US medical students

Why Attend? 

There has been decreasing interest over the last many years for graduating US medical students to opt for Pathology as a career choice. At this point, Pathology is at the bottom of the barrel for any categorical field of medicine that the graduating US medical student can opt for training. While there have been efforts from some Pathology organizations to reverse the trend, such efforts have been disjointed and patchy at best. It appears that a vast majority of Pathologists are not aware of this worrying trend with long-term consequences for the field of Pathology. There is also much misinformation about Pathology as a career on the worldwide web. This presentation will highlight many of the challenges facing us as Pathologists to have this downward spiral successfully reversed and hopefully generate discussions with local-regional and national impact.
