UWild Adventures’ Wilderness Educator program is the first step on the trail to becoming a trip leader and instructor. This course covers the essential skills that every wilderness instructor, guide, and trip leader must develop – backcountry decision making, risk mitigation and management, leave no trace ethics, group development and management, and some essential technical skills. This course will consist of five pre-recorded learning modules and five in-person meetings where we will implement the skills presented in that week’s learning modules. Participants can expect to participate in team-building activities, rock climbing, sea kayaking, land navigation (map and compass), and mountain biking. This course will provide great opportunities to see the sports you love through the lens of a leader; you will walk away from this course with the skills essential to lead trips for programs like UWild! *This course does not guarantee employment as a UWild instructor but does provide participants with all non-medical requirements for the position of trip leader.
