| | Description | UW Pathology Presents “A Path from Computational Pathology to Precision Medicine" Jeffrey A. Golden, MD Director, Burns and Allen Research Institute Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Education Professor of Pathology Cedars-Sinai Hospital Why attend this seminar? Pathology generates about 70-80% of the structured data in the electronic medical record (EMR) and by many estimates is used in 60-70% of all clinical decisions. The data generated in pathology departments has become increasingly complex and challenging for clinicians to fully integrate into their decision making. Furthermore, pathology data is structured in many forms; image, alpha-numeric, etc. Using this data to be better care for our patients has become increasingly important for the field pathology. Beyond pathology, using data from the labs as well as the EMR promises even greater insights and understandings into the patients we care for. This presentation seeks to examine the challenges and opportunities around data utilization and propose a set of principles to integrate this data and use it to better anticipate individual and population based patient needs and select the best therapies for individuals; a form of precision medicine.
