Speaker: Omolara Akingba

Title: Association of Bacterial Vaginosis with Chlamydia Trachomatis Infection Among Women In Mombasa, Kenya: A Nested Case-Control Study

Omolara Akingba (Lara) is a 2nd year epidemiology MPH student at the University of Washington (UW). She is very interested in infectious disease prevention, particularly of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). She is very passionate about solving public health issues through research and implementation science. Her public health interest began with shadowing her father who was a primary care physician during the HIV/AIDS epidemic in rural Eswatini. This work inspired her academic trajectory into infectious disease immunology research at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in the McElrath laboratory. In addition, she acquired a biochemistry and economics academic background and hopes to create new and improved health care interventions particularly in low- and middle- income countries. She plans to realize this eventual outcome through further training in UW’s epidemiology Ph.D. program in Fall 2023.
