In this interactive online class, we will be painting a bright and colorful floral and garden scene painting using oil paints. For reference photos, photos featured from the UW Botanic Gardens plant collections at the Center for Urban Horticulture and Washington Park Arboretum will be used as examples. Using these examples and other photos, participants will learn how to simplify shapes, apply color theory concepts and create paintings that look fresh and joyful. After taking this class, each participant will also be able to use skills such as how to create with bold-loose brushstrokes, underpainting and layering, composition basics and mixing a strong color palette. Participants will also learn: 1. How to create a powerful color palette and impact in their work. 2. How to combine colors and add strong light and shadow in nature 3. How to simplify shapes and create dynamic compositions 4. How to determine value and temperature in paintings You will be sent a detailed supply list or you can opt to purchase a supply kit to complete the workshop painting ($60). Supply kit pickups will be available to pick up at the Center for Urban Horticulture the week of the Saturday class. The deadline to order supply kits is June 14, 2021.
