Description | This virtual workshop will bring together scholars of the contemporary Uyghur Autonomous Region (Xinjiang) for a public conversation concerning current scholarship on the effects of a political and economic campaign that targets Uyghurs, Kazaks and others. Featuring conversations with scholars who have recent or forthcoming books on the region the workshop will focus on theoretical approaches to understanding the social structures that led to the current campaign, works in progress on contemporary social issues in the region from a range of scholars, and methods for continuing to research the situation despite blockages to access. Sean Roberts, Rachel Harris, David Tobin, and Darren Byler will participate in a keynote opening panel and lead a discussion of scholarship in progress. The workshop will be open to the general public. This workshop is organized by Talant Mawkanuli, Turkic and Central Eurasian Studies Program |
