Description | This class covers the basics of multi-day sea kayaking trips. The evening session will cover topics of packing, basics of tides, currents, and navigation and how to prepare for your overnight sea kayak trips. You should be able to attend the evening session and the overnight portion of the class. This is a semi-cooperative trip. FOOD IS NOT PROVIDED on this course, but you will be working with the other group members at the pre-trip meeting to plan meals that the group will purchase on their own. - Prerequisites: UWild Sea Kayaking Basics Course or equivalent experience (see skill requirements).
Minimum skills required (you may be asked to perform one or all of the skills listed below prior/during this program): - Ability to swim
- Experience correctly fitting a PFD
- Experience performing a wet exit
- Ability to get back into a kayak in deep water (with the support of another boater)
What to bring: - All meals and snacks (food planning will be discussed at the pre-trip meeting)
- Personal eating equipment (Tupperware, utensil, mug)
- Three sets of athletic clothing (no cotton)
- Extra layers (one warm hat, 1-2 gloves/mittens, 2-3 top and bottom insulating layers)
- Rain jacket and pants
- Light source (headlamp preferred)
- Two liters of water
- Toothbrush and a small toiletry kit (travel kit)
- Personal snacks
- Closed-toed comfortable shoes to walk in.
- Optional: trekking poles, camera
UWild will provide: - Kayak and other essential kayaking equipment
- Dry suit (dependent on conditions)
- Paddling shoes
- Instruction
- Transportation (if required for the course)
- Camera (photos will be shared after the course)
