Description | Scott Aughenbaugh and Justin Dunnicliff from the National Security Innovation Network will give an introduction on working with the Department of Defense for startups. Their talk will focus on the importance of customer discovery, the breadth of DoD as an organization, currently capability needs and their commercial analogs, opportunities that early-stage companies should be exploring including SBIR and STTR, and the soon-to-be-launched Pacific Northwest Mission Acceleration Center. Scott Aughenbaugh serves as the Acting Strategic Engagement Director and Transition Cell Director at the National Security Innovation Network. In those jobs he manages unique senior relationships and helps organize bigger acquisition projects in the DoD innovation space. Mr. Aughenbaugh previously served as the Acceleration Portfolio Director, working on unique contract mechanisms like SBIR/STTR, venture capital engagement and mentoring with commercial accelerators. He secretly wishes he could live on the Olympic Peninsula.Justin Dunnicliff serves at the University Program Director at the University of Washington for the National Security Innovation Network. He brings the complete array of NSIN programs to UW and the wider Puget Sound area designed to develop new solutions to pressing Department of Defense challenges. He has been a part of NSIN since summer 2016 and previously served as the Collaboration Portfolio Deputy Director, Hacks Program Manager, Senior Innovation Fellow, and interim Executive Officer.
