University of Washington Objectives: - Understand the characteristics that contribute to the definition and classification of lymphomas.
- Understand the difference between lymphoma types and subtypes, and the impact of subtyping. Also understand the difference between lymphoma subtyping and disease stratification.
- Appreciate the contribution of genomics to lymphoma classification and subtyping – also understand the current limitations.

Cancer definition and classification is the cornerstone of diagnosis, management, and research. Lymphomas are a collection of large numbers of cancers of the lymphoid cells. Defining, classifying, and subtyping lymphomas is complex and weighs a multitude of factors. The era of genomics has provided enormous opportunities to refine these and make the system relevant for precision and personalized medicine. It has however, also thrown many challenges. The seminar will explore these aspects from the perspective of a pathologist.
