Skill level: Intermediate (Excel Fundamentals workshop or Excel basics required) In many University of Washington 100 and 200 level STEM courses, students are expected to have familiarity with Microsoft Excel. This workshop is part B of a 2 part series. The series is designed to give students the tools they need to succeed in such courses. In Excel for Math and Science part A, we will discuss conditional formatting, tables and graphs in detail. Exercises should give students an intermediate level understanding of how to represent and analyze scientific data using Excel. In Excel for Math and Science part B, we will discuss mathematical formulae within Excel, statistical testing features and calculus concepts in Excel. Exercises should give students an intermediate level understanding of how to apply more complex formulae to data, and how to utilize statistical testing in Excel to more accurately analyze scientific lab data. While recommended, it is not required to take the series in order. Part B can be taken before part A, even though part A includes content that may make part B more beneficial. The workshop will last 75-90 minutes, and the remaining time will be available for Excel questions. This is an excellent time to bring specific questions about math and science tools within Excel. |
