About the Speaker: Dr. Erica Fuhrmeister recently joined DEOHS as an Assistant Professor with a joint appointment in Civil and Environmental Engineering. She received her B.S in environmental engineering from Johns Hopkins University and her M.S. and Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Fuhrmeister studies reservoirs and transmission of antimicrobial resistance and enteric pathogens using molecular methods in order to develop innovative interventions to prevent infections. Some of her previous work includes investigating the transmission of antimicrobial resistance between humans, poultry, and the environment in urban Kenya. She also studied the impact of improved sanitation on the occurrence of enteric pathogens in household reservoirs in rural Bangladesh. Dr. Fuhrmeister is passionate about creating an inclusive research environment, increasing access to research opportunities, and improving retention of students from underrepresented groups in academia. |
