Description | Join us for a colloquium with Dr. Gyula Szabo from Gothard Astrophysical Observatory (Eötvös Loránd University, Hungary). Title: Planet-to-Star Interactions and Small Bodies in Extrasolar Systems Abstract: This talk presents famous examples for interactions between stars and planets, based on mostly Kepler, TESS and CHEOPS observations, also citing analogues in our Solar System when possible. Well-known examples of star-to-planet interactions include stellar irradiation, atmospheric abrasion and photoevaporation. A remarkable structure is the sub-Jupiter/Neptune desert/savanna in exoplanet distribution, the lack of moderate size planets with P<3 day period. Planet-to-star scenarios are rare, mostly because planets are smaller and their effect on stellar physics is usually minor. I summarize famous examples of these exotic scenarios, including commensurabilities between the stellar spin and the planetary orbit, excitation of stellar activity, and stellar oscillations suffering planetary perturbations. Recently, small bodies have also been detected in solar systems, and we are actively searching for the first confirmed exomoon around an exoplanet. The examples discussed in this talk show how true "black belt" astrophysics operates in the meeting point of several complex processes.
