Description | Vincent Holmberg is an assistant professor of Chemical Engineering. Prior to joining the UW, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Optical Materials Engineering Laboratory at ETH Zürich and earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. Vincent’s research focuses on the synthesis, application and integration of nanomaterials. His laboratory is devoted to the large-scale production of nanowires and nanocrystals, with an emphasis on colloidal nanomaterials synthesized by scalable solution-based and supercritical fluid-based processes. He also uses advanced in situ electron microscopy techniques to study transformations and dynamic processes in nanomaterials, directly within the electron microscope. Vincent hopes that this platform will generate valuable insights into nanomaterial dynamics, and eventually lead to the development of a new class of fabrics, fibers, and other macroscopic materials built from assemblies of nanostructures. Vincent has received the ISASF PhD Thesis Award, Marie Curie ETH Zürich Postdoctoral Fellowship, Hertz Thesis Prize, Hertz Fellowship, NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, MRS Graduate Student Gold Award, and the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. |
