Description | Some of the most pressing issues facing America's educational systems will be discussed during the "Education and Society" documentary film series. Watch "The Homestretch" a join a conversation about homelessness and public education. "The Homestretch" follows three homeless teens as they fight to stay in school, graduate and build a future. Their stories recast stereotypes of homelessness as they work to complete their education while navigating a landscape of couch hopping, emergency shelters, transitional homes, street families and a school system on the front lines of this crisis. The film examines the struggles these youth face and follows them beyond graduation to explore the crucial transition when the structure of school vanishes and homeless youth struggle to find the support and community they need to survive. Following the screening, the following panelists will engage in a discussion of the film: - Josephine Ensign, UW School of Nursing and author of Catching Homelessness
