Description | Engaging public audiences in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is an impactful way to promote interest and professional pathways in these areas. As programs in science outreach grow, the need to create a sustainable infrastructure to support these activities grows with it. In recent years, diversifying the STEM workforce has become an increasing point of attention that positions outreach as an important strategy to address inequities in education that raise from structural injustices. This gathering aims to provide attendees with the opportunity to actively connect and engage with groups and individuals who are involved in science outreach efforts. Through open and facilitated discussions, attendees will work to identify strategies to foster collaboration and create synergies across units and colleges. This conference is open to UW members, including professional ‘outreachers,’ scientists/engineers regularly conducting science outreach, groups that regularly sponsor STEM outreach initiatives, experts in STEM education who focus on outreach, as well as staff and students interest in increasing STEM outreach efforts in their units. |
