Recording: www.youtube.com… Title: Product Making: Designing for Experiences Speaker: Robyn McLaughlin, Director of Mechanical Engineering, Microsoft Abstract: Innovation emerges when customer experiences drive product making. This talk will explore specific design challenges from Surface Pro’s magnetic click-in keyboard, Surface Studio’s Zero Gravity hinge, Surface Book’s Muscle Wire® hinge, and how customer experiences inspired these designs. Bio: Robyn McLaughlin is a Director of Mechanical Engineering at Microsoft. She has been with the company for 10 years and has worked on exciting and innovative product lines including Surface Pro, Surface Book, Surface Studio, and Surface Laptop. She graduated from Trinity University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Science with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering. From there she worked at Dell for 6+ years designing desktop computers and working on a concept innovation team. Her history as both a designer and consumer of these products has allowed her to better understand how to focus on experiences and be the best product maker she can be. * This seminar is part of the ME Graduate Seminar Series (ME520) and ME Chair's Distinguished Industry Lecture Series.
