The annual Leadership Seminar Series demonstrates the breadth of career opportunities available to mechanical engineering graduates. The speakers are graduates of the UW ME department, and the seminar series provides opportunities for ME students and alumni to connect. About the speaker Nyle Miyamoto is Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Director of Structures Engineering. In this role he is responsible for ensuring structural integrity, functional excellence and talent management for more than 2300 engineers and technical workers across all commercial airplane programs. Prior to this assignment, Miyamoto was Director of Airplane Level Engineering Integration. He also served as the first Additive Manufacturing Chief Engineer for Commercial Airplanes. Miyamoto has held other positions as Director of Structures Product Development, Structures Design Chief Engineer, 747/767 Airframe and Cargo Design Center Chief Engineer, and Director of Engineering Operations for BCA Processes and Tools. Nyle is a graduate of Washington State University’s Masters of Engineering Management program and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington. Miyamoto serves an External Advisory Board member for the University of Washington, Mechanical Engineering Department and the Washington State University, Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department. Born and raised in Kona, Hawaii, Miyamoto is an avid fisherman and enjoys cooking and hiking. He and his wife Michele have two children. About the seminar: Nyle has more than 20 years of experience hiring and recruiting talent into Boeing. He will share his advice for engineering students preparing for a career, and seeking internships and full-time positions. He will also offer tips for finding success and happiness in professional engineering roles. |
