| Description | Join the Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering for an E-Textiles Workshop led by HCDE Artist in Residence Irene Posch. This workshop briefly introduces the field of electronic textiles (e-textiles), the making and merging of electronic and computational elements with traditional textile materials. Makers in the field usually rely on a mixed set of tools and skills from two distinct disciplines. The goal here is to design tools that take on both, textile qualities and electronic necessities. This workshop is for students interested in the field of electronic textiles, both beginners and practitioners. Participants will make their own tools related to identified needs in e-textile practices. The process of making introduces materials and processes relevant in the field; the result of the workshop will be functional tools for an individual practice. About Irene Posch
Irene Posch is a researcher and artist based in Vienna, Austria. Her current work explores the integration of electronics and textiles, and the cultural and aesthetic implications thereof. She worked with the Ars Electronica Futurelab and has been an artist in residence at the
V2_Insitute for the Unstable Media NL and Eyebeam Art&Technology Center NYC. Most recently she has been the key researcher within the project “Stitching Worlds” at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and is a PhD candidate at the Institute for Design and Assessment of Technology, TU Vienna. Her work has been presented on international platforms, among them CHI Conference, Future Everything Festival, ZKM – Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe, Eyebeam, Biennale International Design Saint-Etienne, Museum of Applied Arts Vienna. |
