Description | ABSTRACT: Advanced Composites have revolutionized our living, having found applications in household items to the automobile industry. There has been a constant push to understand these polymers at the atomistic scale using computational tools and, on the experimental side, develop rapid fabrication methods for advanced composites. Vashisth lab tries to understand the underlying physics of advanced composites using a closely coupled experimental and theoretical approach. The talk will present recent work on Reactive molecular dynamics to crosslink thermosetting polymers and carry out virtual thermo-mechanical characterization that showed good agreement with experiments. The talk will also touch upon a recent discovery where radio frequency (RF) can be used to rapid heating and cure composites used in the automotive industry. |
