Description | Abstract: Aerospace vehicles are being manufactured for more than a century. As of the 2020's, we are facing an exiting era, in which several technologies are at sufficiently readiness level that can be integrated into new aviation products; this will completely change the way we design and operate airplanes. This lecture will review several trends in the aviation industry, with special focus on structural integrity aspects and challenges. Several trends will be discussed, such as autonomous air vehicles, integration of advanced digitization as part of the design, new materials and processes, alternative propulsion systems, reducing environmental footprint, usage of artificial intelligence and machine learning strategies, and smart technologies for maintenance, repair and overhaul. |
