Description | Abstract: This talk will highlight recent adventures in our group that are aimed at visualizing molecular and material systems with nanometer spatial and femtosecond temporal resolution. In one thrust, through (non)linear tip-enhanced optical spectroscopy, we will illustrate how to visualize different properties of localized plasmons with single/few nanometer spatial resolution under ambient laboratory conditions. Using another technique that relies on spatio-temporally resolved nonlinear photoemission, we will inspect both plasmons and excitons with joint nano- femto spatio-temporal resolution. Notwithstanding target systems that include molecular, low- dimensional quantum materials, and plasmonic nanostructures, our results expose significant nanoscale heterogeneity that is often averaged over and missed in conventional spectroscopic and (transient) microscopic studies. |
