At the University of Washington, inclusive teaching refers to pedagogical practices that support meaningful and accessible learning for all students, regardless of race/ethnicity, gender, socio-economic class, sexual orientation, disability/ability status, religion/spiritual beliefs, nationality, age, or military status. It entails leveraging the multiple strengths students and instructors bring to the learning environment, while recognizing how systems of power and privilege may the dynamics in learning spaces. This workshop will look into principles of inclusion and how they can be integrated in pedagogical strategies. Participants will be introduced to evidence-based practices that recognize the value of implementing different teaching strategies to encompass the diversity of backgrounds present in a course, to reflect a responsive investment in student learning.
