The SER-UW has established more than 10 student-led restoration sites on campus since its founding in 2008, and contributed countless hours of volunteer activities to maintaining the ecological landscape of campus. In this time, we have helped improve animal habitat, enhanced ecological services, and created a healthier living environment for our students. The SER-UW also has our own nursery, where thousands of plants grown at our nursery have been installed at various SER-UW, graduate and undergraduate student restorations sites. Several hundred more have been purchased by community members and planted by the UW Grounds Crew on main campus. Each quarter, many students enjoy participating in work parties at our restoration sites and in our nursery, where they learn about basic restoration skills, landscape design, horticulture practices and the value of native plants in urban and wild landscapes. |
