Yoshira Ornelas Van Horne is a first-generation college graduate and the first Latina to receive a PhD in Environmental Health Sciences from the University of Arizona. Yoshi is currently an Agents of Change in Environmental Health Fellow and a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Division of Environmental Health at the University of Southern California. Yoshi’s research focuses on addressing unequal exposures to harmful contaminants that affect structurally marginalized communities. Her dissertation focused on working with the Diné communities impacted by the Gold King Mine Spill to develop a community-based risk assessment and collaborated with community partners to ensure the dissemination of culturally appropriate results. Yoshi is committed to building health equity through community-driven research. The Environmental and Occupational Health Seminar (Env H 580) is a department-sponsored seminar series for students, staff and faculty; practicing professionals in the environmental and occupational health fields; and the public. This seminar highlights the rich diversity of our department and is an opportunity to hear from locally, nationally and internationally known scientists, practitioners and policymakers on issues of current scientific importance. |
