About the Speaker: Juan Pablo Ramos-Bonilla is Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia). He has a Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (Baltimore, MD), a Master on Environmental Management from Duke University (Durham, NC), and a Civil Engineering degree from Universidad de los Andes. His research is focused on environmental health problems affecting vulnerable populations. He has conducted studies on the presence of lead in toys in the formal market of Bogotá (Colombia), the use of biomarkers to determine pesticide exposure of low-income Colombian women, and the quantification of exposure to air contaminants in different transportation modes in Bogotá. For more than a decade he has lead studies on the risks resulting from asbestos use, quantifying exposure levels and adverse health consequences on both occupational and environmental settings. These studies aid the discussions that resulted in a complete asbestos ban in Colombia in 2019. |
