UW Pathology Presents “Brain Senescent Cell Identification and Clearance in Preclinical and Clinical Studies" Miranda Orr, PhD Assistant Professor, Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine Wake Forest School of Medicine
Why Attend this Seminar? Senescent cells accumulate in nearly all tissues in our body as we age. The complex senescence stress response allows damaged cells to survive. They become instigators of chronic inflammation and degeneration through the toxic molecules they secrete. In this seminar, the studies that discovered senescent brain cells and determined their role in neurodegenerative diseases will be presented. We will also discuss therapeutic strategies that target senescent cells for their removal with a focus on a Phase II clinical trial that is recruiting older adults with mild cognitive impairment and early Alzheimer’s disease.
