Transcription errors as a continuous source for amyloid and prion-like proteins in human cells. Marc Vermulst, PhD Assistant Professor of Gerontology, Molecular and Computational Biology Biological Sciences and Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology Why Attend this Seminar? Various neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and ALS are caused by the aggregation of misfolded proteins. How these misfolded proteins arise in human patients is largely unknown. In this seminar, it is proposed that transcription errors give rise to these misfolded proteins, providing a new mechanism by which non-familial cases of age-related neurodegenerative diseases can arise. If correct, this hypothesis could uncover a new mechanism of human disease. Meeting ID: 930 4620 8772 Passcode: PATH520 |
