Malaria vaccine studies in nonhuman primates - celebrating a five year milestone at the UW Melanie Shears, PhD Acting Instructor Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology University of Washington Affiliate, Washington National Primate Research Center Why Attend this Seminar? Nonhuman primates (NHPs) more closely mirror human immunology and physiology than any other animal model. Because of this, NHPs are ideally suited to bridge the gap between basic malaria vaccine research in mice and vaccine clinical trials. In this seminar, we will review and celebrate five years of NHP malaria vaccine research at the UW. Topics will include 1) bringing NHP malaria research to the UW, 2) cultivating academic and industry partnerships, 3) refining methods and models to enhance the value of NHP studies, and 4) envisioning how NHPs can be strategically used for malaria research in the future.
