Description | Katharyne Mitchell (Geography), Ricardo Gomez (Information School), and Megan Carney (Anthropology) are initiating an interdisciplinary area of critical scholarship in migration studies to explore a complex terrain of profoundly important questions about legal and human rights, ethics, the role of religion and faith in activist engagement, and contemporary belonging and identity. In this talk, they will discuss their collaborative efforts to build a vibrant research cluster and to disseminate ideas in colloquia and public events both on and off campus. Mitchell, Gomez, and Carney invite attendees to read their new essay "Sanctuary Planet: A Global Sanctuary Movement for the Time of Trump" [PDF] before the event. Practicing the Humanities Now is a series at the Simpson Center for the Humanities that provides opportunities for University of Washington scholars to discuss how the practice of the humanities is evolving by adapting to changing conditions and times. Join us for future events in this series featuring Priti Ramamurthy, Vinay Gidwani, Christian Novetzke, and Sunila Kale, on April 27 and May 17, 3:30-5 pm, at the Simpson Center. |
