The Comparative Study of Race graduate research cluster presents ‘Not Optimism, But Hope’: A Roundtable Discussion on Institutional Activism with Nikkita Oliver and Local Organizers

Hope, according to Cornel West, is an “attempt to create new possibilities based on visions that become contagious that will allow us to engage in heroic actions always against the odds, no guarantee whatsoever.” How can we bring this vision of hope to bear more fully on our organizing work within institutions that perpetuate the very forms of violence they claim to mitigate? Please join the Graduate Research Cluster for the Comparative Study of Race in COM 120 for an evening of discussion on what it means to navigate the perils of institutional cooptation while remaining hopeful in our organizing work. At this roundtable panel event, we will host UW Law Grad and People’s Party Mayoral candidate Nikkita Oliver and other local organizers for a conversation on best practices for organizing within and across institutions.
