Description | ‘MYTH’ is a new film by Leonid Kanter and Ivan Yasnij that tells the story of the life and death of Wassyl Slipak, a Ukrainian opera singer who gained fame in Paris. In 2014 Slipak took an active part in the Revolution of Dignity, leading demonstrations and the volunteer movement in France to gain recognition for Ukraine’s plight. When war came to his native Ukraine, Wassyl decided to leave the stage and his career in Europe to join the ranks of volunteer soldiers. The aria of Mephistopheles was his favorite, and from the name of that character Wassyl later took the pseudonym “Myth.” Wassyl "Myth" Slipak died heroically from a sniper bullet during the execution of a combat mission. The movie combines documentary footage and animation by Ukrainian animator Yuriy Zhuravel. The music for the film was written by Evgueni Galperine, who wrote music for Luc Besson and was Wassyl’s close friend; Roman Grygoriv and Illia Razumeyko (NOVA OPERA), and Eduard Dilja Prystupa. This screening is part of a promotional tour in which the filmmakers will visit about 20 cities in the United States. Screening with English subtitles. Admission is free. Donations requested. The raised funds will be used for film promotion in Ukraine and all over the world. |
