We’re organizing an event with Professor Vince Intondi, author of African Americans Against the Bomb. His work looks at how nuclear weapons and racial justice are connected, and how the African American community has been closely tied to the fight against nuclear weapons since the beginning of the nuclear era. Vince will be speaking on April 2nd at the University of Washington from 6pm - 7:30pm in Bagley room 131. You can find more information here [goo.gl…]. His talk is being sponsored by WPSR, Health Alliance International, the UW Global Health Department, and Town Hall Seattle. This talk is very timely for a couple of reasons: First, the threat of nuclear catastrophe has grown under the current Administration, and nuclear weapons are in the news now more than we’ve seen in decades. Second, this event is just days before the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr’s death (April 4th), who strongly opposed nuclear weapons and militarism. This is a great opportunity to explore why communities of color and other citizens concerned with social and racial justice can and should be engaged with the issue of nuclear weapons. |
