Description | In this talk, Dr. Denise Abreu e Lima, President of Brazil's Ministry-of-Education-sponsored Languages without Borders Program, will share her experience developing, instituing, and maintaining a nation-wide public language teaching initiative. The program offers on-line learning, proficiency tests, and face-to-face classes taught by undergraduate interns to Brazil's university community (students, professors, and staff). Through this endeavor, the Brazilian federal government is investing in language teaching and learning on an unprecedented level, which represents unique opportunities for specialists in the field of Applied Linguistics to contribute to national language policy. |
