Description | Thursday, May 23, 2019, 3:30 – 5 p.m., CMU 120, Prof. Rainer Schulte, Founder and Director of the University of Texas/Dallas Translation Studies Program and Serena Bassi, Working Group Coordinator of the Yale Translation Studies Initiative will share their experiences in launching a university Translation Studies (TS) program that meets the needs and interests of twenty-first century students, translators and researchers. Schulte, who is the founding editor of Translation Review and the founder of the American Literary Translator’s Association (ALTA), created one of the nation’s first TS centers in Dallas and has been leading it for 40 years. Bassi, who earned her PhD in TS at the University of Warwick in 2014, is helping lead Yale’s efforts to define its own TS program in an initiative launched just last fall. The event is sponsored by two Simpson Center for the Humanities funded projects: the Multidisciplinary Translation Studies Graduate Research Cluster 2018-19 and the Next Generation Humanities PhD. The program is free and open to the public. |
