A study in Nature Biotechnology in 2018 found that graduate students are 6 times more likely than the general public to experience anxiety and depression and seeks to identify factors that may explain this increased prevalence. We will use this study to jump start a discussion of unique stressors that exist in graduate school that may explain this trend and what we can do to mitigate them. This will include things individuals and departments can do as well as a non-comprehensive overview of resources that are available here at the University of Washington.
