This talk and conversation is open to the public and will be recorded. This roundtable brings together members of the Feminist Radical Political Economy (FRPE) collective to discuss labor in times of crisis. Themes addressed include the precarity of labor, war and migration and national boundaries, care in times of COVID (and beyond), the rise of fascism, the implications of agrarian crises and possibilities for alternative approaches and economic transformation. Charusheela (Professor, Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, University of Washington Bothell), Dr. Jennifer Cohen (Assistant Professor, Global and Intercultural Studies, Miami University & Joint Researcher, Faculty of Medicine, University of the Witwatersrand), Dr. Barbara Hopkins (Professor, Economics, Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio), Dr. Sirisha Naidu (Associate Professor of Economics, University of Missouri-Kansas City), Dr. Jennifer Olmsted (Professor of Economics, Drew University), Dr. Smriti Rao, (Professor Economics and Global Studies, Assumption University and Resident Scholar, Women’s Studies Research Center, Brandeis University). This talk, organized by Dr. S Charusheela, is taking place on Zoom in conjunction with BCULST 587/BISIA 410 S21 Labor Stories During Pandemic Times. About the Colloquium: Join the University of Washington Bothell Labor Studies Colloquium for a year of online talks investigating and exploring the exacerbated, economic fault lines for working class lives in times of crisis. Each meeting, held on Zoom, will feature a talk by a visiting scholar and/or artist and discussion, including topics such as the carceral and unresponsive state, alternate and solidarity economies and community storytelling. The seminars are organized by UWB Labor Colloquium faculty members Dr. Dan Berger, Dr. S. Charusheela, Dr. Joseph Ferrare and Dr. Kari Lerum, coordinated by Dr. Ching-In Chen with assistance from Graduate Assistant Simon Wolf. |
