Description | NAAM and University of Washington present a virtual program with renowned philosopher, professor, and activist, Dr. Cornel West. Dr. West will explore the concept and call of 'critical thinking & the cultivation of your true self.' The program will be moderated by University of Washington professor, author, and scholar, Dr. Ralina Joseph. Cornel West is a prominent and provocative intellectual. He is Professor of the practice of Public Philosophy at Harvard University and Professor Emeritus at Princeton University. He has also taught at Yale, Union Theological Seminary, and the University of Paris. He graduated from Harvard and obtained his M.A.and Ph.D. in Philosophy at Princeton. He has a passion to communicate to a vast variety of publics in order to keep alive the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.–a legacy of telling the truth and bearing witness to love and justice. Dr. West has written 20 books and is best known for his classics, Race Matters and Democracy Matters, and for his memoir, Brother West: Living and LovingOut Loud. His most recent book, Black Prophetic Fire, looks at 19th and 20th-century African American leaders and their visionary legacies. He is a frequent guest on CNN, C-Span, the Bill Maher Show, and DemocracyNow, and has appeared in over 25 documentaries and films including The Matrix, Examined Life, Call & Response, and Sidewalk and Stand. He has produced three spoken word albums including Never Forget, collaborating with Prince, Jill Scott, Andre 3000, Talib Kweli, KRS-One, and the late Gerald Levert. His spoken word interludes are featured on productions by Terence Blanchard, Raheem DeVaughn, and Bootsy Collins. |
