Description | Please join the University of Washington Bothell Labor Studies Colloquium, the Labor Stories During Pandemic Times class and the From the Convergence Zone reading series for a reading and conversation with Peter Bacho from his just-released book, Uncle Rico's Encore: Mostly True Stories of Filipino Seattle, a collection of autobiographical essays about blue-collar Filipino American life in Seattle. Peter Bacho is the author of six books: Cebu, Dark Blue Suit, Boxing in Black and White, Nelson's Run, Entrys, and Leaving Yesler. His books have received several awards, including the 1992 American Book Award. He is a writing professor at Evergreen State College. As a child, Bacho lived with his immigrant parents in migrant worker camps, traveling from harvest to harvest. Much of his youth was spent in Seattle’s blue collar and multiethnic Central District, a place of hard lives and tough times. He was the first in his family to graduate from high school, then college and finally law school. These experiences continue to inform his writing. This talk, organized by Dr. Ching-In Chen, is taking place on Zoom in conjunction with BISIA 410: Labor Stories from Pandemic Times. The talk is free and open to the public, with pre-registration. Visit bit.ly…. Zoom links will be e-mailed the day of the talk. For event questions and UWB Labor Colloquium questions, contact Dr. Ching-In Chen at chingin@uw.edu. |
