7:30-9:00AM Virginia Mason Grand Rounds Title: “Pushing the value of minimally-invasive colorectal surgery” Presenter: Vlad V. Simianu, MD MPH Dr. Vlad (“Val”) Simianu is a Colon and Rectal Surgeon with Virginia Mason since 2018. He received his M.D. from Indiana University in 2010 and completed General Surgery Residency at the University of Washington in 2017. During his residency, Dr. Simianu also received his Master’s in Public Health degree from the UW School of Public Health with a focus on Health Services. He subsequently completed fellowship training in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Simianu is an active educator and researcher. At Virginia Mason, he is the lead for the surgical residents’ robotics curriculum and serves as the lead investigator and surgeon for several local and national studies spanning the spectrum of colorectal care. He is the Medical Director of the Colorectal Center of Excellence at the Digestive Disease Institute and Medical Director of the Colorectal Cancer Service Line at Virginia Mason’s Floyd and Delores Jones Cancer Institute. Dr. Simianu is dedicated in improving the quality of surgical care in Washington State and serves as the Associate Medical Director, Colorectal, of the Surgical Care Outcomes Assessment Program (SCOAP). Title: “Necrotizing Pancreatitis Management at Virginia Mason” Presenter: Dr. David Sanders, MD Dr. David Sanders is a Gastroenterologist from Victoria, British Columbia. He completed his undergraduate degree at McGill University and his Medical Degree, Internal Medicine residency, and Gastroenterology fellowship at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Sanders was the ERCP/EUS Fellow at the University of British Columbia before starting at Virginia Mason in September 2020. Previous research was with the Colon Screening Program (CSP) at the British Columbia Cancer Agency (BCCA). Title: “Nursing-Administered Propofol Continuous Infusion Sedation (NAPCIS) for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in Patients with Cirrhosis” Title: “Characterization and Outcomes of Patients with Mid-Small Bowel Crohn’s Disease” Presenter: Dr. Adil Ghafoor, MD Dr. Adil Ghafoor is a hepatology fellow at Virginia Mason’s Digestive Disease Institute. After attending medical school at Indiana University School of Medicine, he joined Ascension St. Vincent Health Internal Medicine Residency in Indianapolis, IN, where he helped establish an outpatient hepatitis C treatment clinic for the program and conducted multiple studies in patients with hepatic and luminal diseases. He is passionate about medical education and serving the community. Adil is board certified in internal medicine and will be completing his hepatology fellowship in June 2021. Title: “Safety and Clinical Outcomes of Performing Early dual Modality Drainage (<28 days) of Pancreatic Necrotic Collections – A match Case Control Study.” Presenter: Dr. Shivanand Bomman, MD Dr. Shivanand Bomman completed medical school at Bangalore Medical College, India, and completed his Internal Medicine residency at University of Nevada School of Medicine, Las Vegas (UNLV). Dr. Bomman is an Internist and aspiring Gastroenterologist, especially interested in advanced therapeutic endoscopy. Dr. Bomman is presently an Endoscopy Research fellow at Virginia Mason Medical Center.
