Description | Are you ready for the Seattle summer art scene? There are four major exhibitions in the Seattle area, and each provides a unique insight to world-class art and artists. In this seminar, Mark Ondrake will guide us through a presentation and discussion on all four. These include: - The sepia-toned photos of Edward Curtis, the Seattle ethnologist who focused on the American West and Native American peoples (Seattle Art Museum)
- The Neo-Expressionist works by the “enfant terrible” Basquiat, dead at age 27. His paintings now sell for over $110 million, and Seattle is showing an original Basquiat canvas (Seattle Art Museum)
- Have you seen the “fin-de-siècle” work by Franz von Stuck, “Sin”? This electrifying Symbolist image of Eve and the serpent is the original “femme fatale”, painted long before Film Noir (Frye Art Museum)
- Landscapes by the French 19th century Barbizon School, precursors to Impressionism. Parlez-vous un peu de français? (Frye Art Museum)
This event includes a slide-show presentation from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with ongoing discussion, so join us for a brown-bag lunch-and-learn!Mark Ondrake, M.A., is a UW alum and independent art historian.
