Details | Museum curator and author Alcione M. Amos will lecture on the history of Barry Farm/Hillsdale, a settlement created by the Freedmen’s Bureau in 1867 to deal with the housing problems faced by African Americans in Washington, DC after the Civil War. This community’s little-known history mirrors the broad arc of African American history, but is also a fascinating and significant piece of local DC history. This program will be at the Anacostia Neighborhood Library, 1800 Good Hope Rd SE, Washington, DC. Image courtesy Anacostia Community Museum. This program is presented in partnership with the DC Public Library, in collaboration with the Anacostia Coordinating Council (ACC), and in conjunction with the exhibition "A Right To The City." This program is funded in part by the D.C. Commission on the Arts & Humanities, an agency supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts RSVP ON EVENTBRITE |
