Details | NMAAHC’s Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), invites 3rd-5th grade STEM teachers to participate in an interactive week-long professional development workshop that uses the museum’s musical collections as teaching tools. Through direct instruction, guided practice, and cooperative exploration, participants will act as learners and leaders as they explore African American STEM contributions to music through innovation and technology. Participating teachers will engage in activities that demonstrate how music serves as a bridge between communities and culture, identify how African American culture has shaped American music, and reveal connections between African American music and American history. Teachers will - Learn how African Americans have contributed to music through innovation and technological advances
- Integrate new concepts and create lessons using NMAAHC’s collections and digital tools
- Leave with new and refined lessons incorporating NMAAHC’s collections
- Receive STEM resources for lesson integration in the classroom
- Develop awareness around the importance of culturally responsive teaching and learning in science classrooms
