View the trailer Winner of the Best Screenplay award at the 2018 Venice International Film Festival, the sixth movie from Tibetan filmmaker Pema Tseden (Old Dog, The Silent Holy Stones) is “a fable, a Tibetan road movie, and a tribute to classic Westerns…that expands the range of Pema Tseden’s cinematographic vision in exhilarating and provocative ways” (Shelly Kraicer, Cinemascope.) On a lonely road on China’s barren Kekexili Plateau, a truck driver named Jinpa picks up a hitchhiker who shares his name, carries a scary knife, and claims to be on the way to kill the man who murdered his father ten years earlier. After dropping him off, the driver becomes curious and decides to seek him out, setting in motion a metaphysical plot in which dreams and reality mix. Produced by the legendary Wong Kar-wai (In the Mood for Love), Jinpa fleshes out its deceptively minimal story with gorgeous visuals and a mesmerizing, hallucinatory atmosphere.
